Facts, Tips & IdeasHealth & Well-BeingTea tree and lavender conditioner
Tea tree and lavender conditioner
You will need
• 16 tsp cold pressed extra virgin olive oil
• 8 tsp coconut oil
• 12 drops tea tree essential oil
• 8 drops lavender essential oil
• 12 tsp honey

Buying and using essential oils
•Tea tree, lavender and rosemary oils are extracted from aromatic plants and are used to enhance health and beauty. You can buy them at good pharmacies or from specialist herbalists. They are sold in small bottles made of dark glass to protect them from the light.
• A dropper will enable you to use the oils in small quantities.
• Essential oils are strong and should always be diluted in odourless carrier oils before being applied to the skin.
• It is possible that essential oils may cause irritation to sensitive skin. To check for any adverse reaction, apply a drop of oil to the inside of the elbow and monitor for 24 hours. Pregnant women should take advice before using essential oils.

This natural recipe uses honey and tea tree oil for anti-bacterial properties and lavender with its delightful scent for a conditioning hair treatment.

1 Mixing the base oils
Pour the olive oil into a bottle or small jar with a tight-fitting lid. Add the coconut oil and shake to mix.

2 Adding the scented oils
Add the tea tree and lavender oils to the bottle or jar and shake again to combine them thoroughly with the base oils. Be careful not to add more than the required number of drops – measure them separately if this helps.

3 Spooning in the honey
Before measuring out the teaspoons of honey, dip the spoon into hot water for a few seconds so that the honey will slide off it more easily. Add the honey to the mixture in the bottle or jar.

4 Storing and using
Pour the conditioner into a storage bottle with a secure cap or cork. This quantity is enough for about four applications. To use, shake the bottle, wet your hair, and massage conditioner into scalp. Wrap  hair in a towel for about 20 minutes before shampooing as normal.

Variations...
Rosemary is particularly good for hair shine and as a bonus it has a wonderful scent. Replace the lavender essential oil with rosemary essential oil in the above recipe, and shake well before applying.
